WINTER STORM WATCHES ISSUED NEAR NYC METRO AREA – good afternoon everyone. Things are evolving as we get closer to the time a major Nor’easter will be lurking in our region.
Winter storm watches have been issued along the NJ shore and central/eastern Long Island. We still have a long way to go, but the way the watches are being issued, shows how we will really be walking a tightrope as to who sees what.
Too close to shore, and the east end of Long Island could see snow changing to mix/rain, then back to snow. Too far away, and the western edge of precip could be hovering around the NYC area, cutting snow totals down.
As of now, I continue to see narrow bands like neopolitan ice cream between 2-4/3-6/4-8” amounts for the NYC metro area on east. However, if the low gets any closer, areas just west of the rain/snow line, could see 6-12+” amounts of snow.
Also, if everything comes to fruition and watch areas become warning areas, don’t be surprised to see blizzard warnings pop up due to falling temps, dropping visibility, and specific wind speeds.
