NYC Peak Heat Friday Possible Bonus Hot Day Saturday

NYC Peak Heat Friday Possible Bonus Hot Day Saturday

Good morning everyone. We are in the process of getting this mini heatwave going and there are some adjustment to be made timeline and precipitation-wise in regards. PM showers and storms are expected today as forecasted, but we’ll have to add the risk of thunderstorms on Thursday with a fairly vigorous disturbance passing by. We’ll also prolong the heat on Saturday, with no relief till Sunday. That’ll also give us the risk of thunderstorms on Saturday instead of Friday. With all of these changes, Friday remains peak heat in terms of potential highs.

Expect sunshine for a few more hours today, then increasing clouds. This is in response to an area of disturbed weather that is slowly churning our way. The most concentrated area of rain should pass to our northeast, but the tail end could produce some formidable showers and storms down this way. The biggest risk will be small hail, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. We also won’t rule out the chance of an isolated tornado. Highs today in the mid to upper 80’s.

Tomorrow will be more dry with no chance of rain, but it’ll be humid out there. Look for mostly sunny skies and highs in the 85-90 range.

WEATHER RADAR

The hotter weather moves in on Thursday with sun through early afternoon and highs in the low to mid 90’s.  A wave of energy will pass by riding that hot ridge of air. This will touch off a line of severe weather that could stretch down our way. The marine layer will be relatively weak, so it’s possible the storms could survive the trip.

Friday is a simple one in terms of our forecast. Hazy, extremely hot, and humid, highs 95-100.

The weekend looks a little more complicated as it looks as if our relief from the heat is delayed. Expect AM sun on Saturday with highs a muggy low to mid 90’s. A strong cold front will swing by, touching off another line of severe storms. This will give us the relief we need for Sunday, with breezy conditions, full sunshine, and highs in the low to mid 80’s.
