NYC Pleasant Weekend Ahead Plus Tropical Update
Good afternoon everyone! We’re here with some great news as far as some rain and a break from the heat, but the tropics are finally waking up at around the time in which I said they would; and we are watching 1 feature in particular as it has emerged from Africa.
SATELLITE
We’ll start off with the local weather where we have another hot and humid day. Temps are in the low 90’s and we have a few storms to our N&W. Most of that energy will stay away for today, but we can’t rule out a stray storm with this heat.
Overnight we only drop to near 80, then we have ourselves another very hot and humid one tomorrow. We’ll notch up the temps a bit and into the mid to upper 90’s, and we will also increase the chance of strong/severe storms in the afternoon.
WEATHER RADAR
We were only off by 1 day when we started talking about the long range about 10 days ago. We had spoken about the possibility of moisture getting hung up with clouds, rain, and muggy low 80’s; or the front clearing and a possible break in the 70’s. Well, we go for the clouds and the mug for Wednesday and Thursday. Look for sun & clouds, on and off scattered showers and storms, with muggy low to mid 80’s each day.
The front will clear the area for Friday, giving us a breezy, pleasantly warm day in the low 80’s with low humidity. Sunshine continues both Saturday and Sunday, with low 80’s each day for a perfect mid-August weekend.
As for the tropics, Saharan sand helped keep a lid on tropical activity, but a friendlier environment has emerged in between two batches of sand. We talked about how eyes should be pointed towards Africa a couple of weeks ago during a live session, and that seems to be coming to fruition right on time.
We’ll see how this wave does, but it has a decent chance of developing over the next several days. Where it goes and what it does in the future is too uncertain to say right now. However, this is an indicator that we will be ramping up the season after a typical July lull.
