NYC Pleasantly Mild Stretch Ahead
10/18/24 10:54am ET
Good morning everyone. Cobalt blue skies grace the Northeast as dry air settles in and high pressure keeps a strong, compact coastal storm well offshore. That’ll bring some enhanced tides and some coastal flooding issues, but overall we have a glorious 5 day stretch for much of the region.
Temperatures range from seasonable to seasonably cool today as air modifies away from the big chill, then we begin to go mild tomorrow. Near 70 degree temps for the coastal plain tomorrow will give way to mid 70’s on Sunday, and possibly 75-80 on Monday. We’ll hold onto that very mild air on Tuesday, then we begin to cool off again.
Our big story remains out west, with a formidable low pressure system sweeping through the Rockies and coming out into the western Plains. This will trigger both heavy showers & thunderstorms with the potential for isolated severe weather, plus heavy snows in the higher elevation mountains. In high elevation areas, 1-2ft of snow is not out of the question.
In lower elevation areas such as New Mexico, Colorado, the panhandle of Texas, and westernmost Oklahoma & Kansas, we could see locally damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, and torrential rain. High pressure will keep that action from pushing any further east, but areas on that easternmost edge of energy, could see some very nasty scattered thunderstorms over the next couple of days.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
We’ll have full sunshine today and dry conditions. Coastal areas could see some minor coastal flooding as that low pressure system joins up with the moon to enhance the tides. Highs today in the mid to upper 60’s.
WEATHER RADAR
We go milder tomorrow, with more sunshine, dry conditions, and highs near 70. Look for low to mid 70’s on Sunday for a perfect October day.
Monday is looking very mild to warm as highs peak in the 75-80 range across much of the area. Look for cooler conditions along the immediate shore. We scale things back a bit on Tuesday with mid 70’s before 60’s return on Wednesday.
