NYC QUIET MILD WEEKEND AHEAD
NYC QUIET MILD WEEKEND AHEAD
NYC QUIET MILD WEEKEND AHEAD – Good morning everyone! We have a mild holiday weekend in store for us, but first we need to get through a cold and windy day today, with highs in the upper 30’s, and gusty winds from Maine’s departing storm. Tomorrow will also be cool, with sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 40’s, and a stuff breeze as well; although not as windy so it’ll feel more comfortable.
For the weekend, mild air begins to push in on Saturday with the help of a southwest wind. Skies will be sunny and highs should be 50-55 in much of the NYC area. With a light NW wind on Sunday, sinking air will warm us up quick, and we should see highs 55-60 in the NYC area. However, with conditions like this, we could see a few places a little warmer than that, but we have to wait and see how it plays out. Specific areas such as Manhattan, central Brooklyn, central Queens, and across the river into areas around Newark, could see temps break the 60 degree mark. The record high on Sunday was 65 degrees in 1997. While I doubt we will break it, we could come within a few degrees.
For next week, there are conflicting views on whether this warm air will continue or not. I see the colder air trying to fight back from New England, but it won’t win a full victory. Expect a slight cool down on Monday, but temperatures will still remain above normal. I’m thinking we’ll continue upper 40’s to near 50 after Monday, with warmer air trying to fight back. Don’t be surprised if we see 60 again one more time next week, but it’ll probably be closer towards the end of the week. With a stretched out system in the Mid West breaking apart and forming several waves, I expect this trend to continue until everything passes – two slightly above normal days, one warm day, then cool again, and warm again.
Eye’s on the beginning of March continue to see if it comes in like a Lion.
