NYC Quiet Week Issues Remain Mid-Month For Snow Lovers

Good morning everyone. Our stubborn compact system begins to pull away from the Northeast and a quiet week is settling in. Looking at the long range, we continue to see issues for snow lovers mid to late month as the pattern begins to pivot towards a more March-like preview.

Expect decreasing clouds today and increasing sunshine. For those with snow still on the ground, the melt will be on today with highs in the mid 40’s.

We’ll hold onto sunshine and mid 40’s tomorrow, and we’ll keep this party going all week.

WEATHER RADAR

Quiet weather continues on Thursday with sunshine and near 50 temps in spots, then we dip a bit back into the mid 40’s on Friday. However, the sunshine remains.

Your weekend remains looking quiet, and Saturday may be the mildest of this stretch. Depending on cloud cover and the wind profile, we could see 50-55 degree temps; then we dip again on Sunday with 40-45 degree temps under sound & clouds.

We’re still watching a system for Sunday night/Monday that’s holding on in a few model runs, but it’s not a Blizzard like many outlets are claiming it to be. Maybe……maybe, we get clipped with some scattered light snow or rain showers, but right now I’m thinking a 10% chance in my mind.

In the long range, there are still hints at a large frontal system/low pressure system being forced up into the western Great Lakes area mid-month, and this would put us at a serious disadvantage for any major snow during the rest of February. Love it or hate it, love me or hate me, math is math and statistics are statistics.

Historically, we’ve had some monster storms in March. Also historically, those storms are not easy to pull off. Right now, it looks as if the only way we get to near-average snowfall for NYC, will be to get one of these rarities. Parts of Long Island have received their average snowfall between our small system several weeks ago, and the big one last week.

Again, I stress that this doesn’t mean the cold is over or we are done with snow. All I’m saying is that each time a system doesn’t work out during this time of year, it’s another week closer to spring, and it statistically gets harder and harder to get big, all-snow systems.
