NYC Quiet Workweek Ahead Plus Eyes On Next Week’s System

Good morning everyone. Our quiet workweek continues, with varying amounts of cold coming and out of the area. We have nothing extreme going on temp-wise or storm-wise, but I continue to watch our next system coming in for next Monday/Tuesday, which I’ll discuss below.

We’ll start things off simple with our quiet period right now. We’ll have full sunshine today with highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s, and steady westerlies will help keep things feeling a little chillier.

A reinforcing shot of cold air may touch off a few flurries tomorrow, but for the most part we’ll have a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will pick up, and we could see some gusts near 30 as that cold air heads in. Expect highs in the mid 30’s tomorrow, then mid to upper 30’s Thursday.

To end the workweek, we’ll bring those temps back up to the low 40’s on Friday before colder air heads back in again.

On Saturday, the cold air and wind return with another reinforcing cold airmass. We’ll sink back down to mid 30’s Saturday and Sunday, under full sunshine and a steady breeze.

That’ll help set us up for our next system next Monday and/or Tuesday. A few days I discussed this and said we could get some onset snow changing to rain. For the moment, things are looking a little colder as that system may get suppressed more south. This is not a coastal system per se, and is a general west to east mover and light to moderate in nature. However, we’ll have to watch for any waves developing or what kind of energy is left behind.

My main concern is not the snow, but the low confidence in this early look into next week. If things continue to trend colder, it’s quite possible it trends “too cold” and suppresses the system to our south and out to sea.

We’ll keep an eye on it all and see what the deal is.
