NYC RAIN SNOW LINE ISSUES SATURDAY NIGHT – Good morning everyone! We continue to watch a complicated scenario for Saturday night and wait to see what everything looks like once the pieces come together. The show must go on though and there’s weather to talk about.
Today is looking on the cloudier side of things, and as discussed, the less sun we get, the cooler side of mild we would be. Look for highs 55-60 today unless the sun surprises us with an appearance. Rain moves back in tonight and will last through the morning tomorrow. Look for temps to drop through the 50’s, then 40’s as the day wears on.
Saturday’s initial forecast of sunny and mid to upper 30’s remains steady, but it’s at night where the questions begin. A wave of energy associated with the tail end of Friday’s system will move up from the Mississippi Valley and meet up with a pocket of cold air. The cold air is here, so timing won’t be an issue, but path will and so will if the cold air can hang on or not at the immediate coast.
Either way, this will be a very fast moving system and only capable of inflicting a certain maximum of snow. Those who do see all snow will probably see a 3-6″ event with locally higher amounts. Those who see a mix change to all snow, will see a 2-4″ type event. Then there are those who will see all rain and areas that could see a slushy inch or two.
Part of the issue trying to make the call now, is that we’re trying to predict a system behind a system. Sometimes fronts don’t clear the way they are forecasted and sometimes solutions are slightly warmer or slightly colder once a front passes. This will make a difference along the immediate coast, putting the NYC and Long Island area on the balance beam as of now in terms of the rain/snow line.
