NYC RAINY FRIDAY EXPECTED RAINY NEW YEARS EVE POSSIBLE
Good morning everyone. After a sunny start today, another system will be bringing rain into the New York City Area tomorrow. Meanwhile, that system I’ve been talking about for the last week or so on or around New Year’s Eve, is looking like a wet one and the timing isn’t too great either.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Today is looking sunny and comfortable with increasing clouds late, highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. Expect rain to start between 2am and 5am overnight, then it’ll be with us on and off for much of the day tomorrow.
We’ll be in the warm sector again on this one, so look for your staple mid to upper 50’s and a couple of shots of heavier rain at times. Because of all the rain we’ve had, flooding could be an issue in the notorious spots. Again, this is not a particularly huge system strength-wise, but the ground is oversaturated and ponding will be easy. Look for a gusty wind as well, especially along the immediate shore with that southerly fetch.
REGIONAL RADAR
For our weekend, we start off “mild”, but we don’t hang on to it as previously expected. We’ll have skies becoming sunny on Saturday and you’ll probably wake up with 50’s, but the temps will fall through the 40’s by afternoon as winds begin to get brisk and gusty.
Colder air fully works its way in for Sunday and it’ll be sunny with mid 30’s. For this time of year, this is spot-on average. Overnight Sunday, we slowly begin to cloud up for some potentially bad news for the party revelers on Monday night.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
As of this moment, the system that hits us tomorrow, is slow to leave the Gulf Coast with its trailing front. This will hook up with some energy coming across the Southwest, then travel northeast through the Tennessee Valley.
Moisture will head up our way, but the primary low will go to our west. This means rain for our area for Monday into Monday evening. Depending on the timing, we could see some wet flakes to start, but with this path and lack of redevelopment off of the coast, any frozen precip would quickly change to rain. We’ll also have to wait to see the exact timing to see if it affects the Ball Drop at Times Square, but either way, you may get rained on waiting for it and it’ll be a cold rain.
