NYC NEW YEARS 2019 QUESTIONS REMAIN
Good morning everyone. I hope all those who celebrate Christmas had a wonderful holiday with the friends and family. We are entering an active period as we speak and what that means for us remains in question, but the first chapter of this story is pretty much written in stone.
EASTERN SATELLITE
For today, expect a cloudy start, then partial clearing. It’ll feel a little brisk out there with a light, steady, cool breeze, highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. That upper 30 to low 40 range will stick with us tomorrow, but the wind will be lighter and we’ll have bright sunshine, so things will feel a little warmer on the face.
REGIONAL RADAR
We cloud up quickly Thursday evening, then we should have some rain moving in before midnight. This is associated with another wide-ranging system that’ll effect that Ohio Valley, Tennessee Valley, East Coast, and Canada all at once. However, we remain in the warm sector of this system and it’ll be all rain with no surprises.
Rain continues on and off all day Friday and we should see about 1-1.5″ out of this with possibly locally higher amounts. Look for localized flooding issues not because of the rain amounts, but because of the ground being saturated from this past week’s storm. Highs Friday 55-60.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
“Mild” air hangs on for Saturday as expected with some space between the departing system and cooler air heading our way. We’ll have clearing skies and highs a breezy low 50’s. For Sunday, cooler air makes it’s delayed arrival with sun and clouds and highs in the mid to upper 30’s.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Questions remain for New Years Eve/Day as we wait to see if a couple of piece-meal systems can organize or not. It’s hard to tell right now, especially when we have to get past Friday’s system first to see what the atmosphere looks like behind it.
Several things can happen, the first being nothing with areas of energy sliding south and north of us. We could also have a low emerging from the Tennessee Valley New Year’s Day. If that transfers its energy to the coast, things could get a little bit interesting for those who like frozen precip. Or if it races up fast enough to our west, there could be enough cold air locked in to give us some onset snow/mix before changing to rain.
All of this bares watching and it could amount to nothing, or we may have to react quickly with a short range forecast that includes a taste of the white stuff.
