NYC Rainy Raw Forecast Saturday

Good morning everyone. We’ve begun to crawl out of the cold air and into some milder temps as high pressure drifts away and a new system arrives for Saturday. The jet stream and our system paths are simply not working out so far for snow lovers, and we’ll just add this one to the list with a rainy and raw Saturday.

SATELLITE

For today, look for milky high clouds and some patches of blue mixed in. Highs today in the low to mid 40’s. Overnight, the 20’s are gone and mid 30’s will be about as low as we go.

Tomorrow, a mix of sun and clouds will become increasing clouds. Expect mid to upper 40’s, then a cloudy overnight and upper 30’s as lows.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

With upper 30’s as lows Friday night and warmer air aloft, we won’t even see a frozen precipitation start. A cold rain will begin before sunrise Saturday, then we can expect a breezy, rainy, and raw day with low to mid 40’s as highs. Some of the rain may be heavy at times, but we shouldn’t have any widespread flooding.

Overnight as everything pulls away, enough cold air may sneak in where we see a few sleet pellets or wet snow mixed in with any wraparound moisture, but it won’t be anything of significance. Things are on the move fast than previously thought, so expect partial clearing Sunday and more mid 40’s. A stiff breeze may develop and make it feel like upper 20’s to mid 30’s out there.

In the long range, average to slightly above average temps resume and systems are coming in every 5-7 days. That means some comfortable dry stretches in between each period of precip. There are still no major snowstorms on the horizon, and we’ll take each system as they come. If we can’t squeeze out one snow day with this pattern in the next few weeks, we will be behind the eight ball in a big way in terms of achieving our 26-28″ seasonal snow average.

We may have to start looking for a late February/early March blockbuster to save the season on paper.
