NYC Scattered Flakes & Light Showers Today

Good morning everyone. Our weak disturbance passes by today, touching off some scattered precip throughout the area. The big story remains a strong cold front that’ll be passing by Christmas Eve, and that’ll help bring back cold air into the region.

We’re socked in with the clouds today even though any precip that does fall will be light and widely scattered. Expect some scattered flakes this morning, then a few cold showers or light showers mixed with wet flakes. No accumulation is expected, and highs will be in the upper 30’s to near 40.

We’ll have gradual clearing tomorrow, but the system helps bring back slightly colder air. Highs will be in the mid 30’s at best.

We’re having a hard time getting rid of this system that keeps lagging to our south and pushing another weak wave on by for Tuesday. This will bring some early clouds and the slight chance of a rain or snow shower early, then we clear up again. Highs in the low 40’s on Tuesday.

Wednesday looks like the best day of the week as far as sunshine is concerned, but it’ll still be chilly. We’ll have highs in the low 40’s again.

For Christmas Eve day, we have a strong cold front approaching the area. All signs point to a windy and mild day, with increasing clouds as we move along. Rain will be on and off late, heavy at times, with even  the chance of a few rumbles. Highs will be 55-60, cooler at the immediate shore. As far as winds are concerned, expect 20-30 sustained along the coast with gusts possibly 45-55 mph. Away from the coast, 15-20 mph winds with gusts 35-40 in the heaviest showers.

Depending on what’s behind the front, rain may mix or briefly turn to wet snow before ending. Christmas Day is looking cold and breezy, with highs dropping through the mid 30’s. We may also see some scattered flurries about depending on if the Lake Effect action reaches down here before dissipating.
