NYC Scattered Showers & Storms Today

Good morning everyone. Vigorous low pressure and the main area of energy associated with it, has slipped to the east as it hugs the coast of Long Island. The majority of heavy rain and thunderstorms, is now hung up across interior parts of New York and New England. This will continue to be the story today, but as the sun heats the atmosphere, we’ll look for scattered showers and storms to pop up again with cooler air aloft interacting with our slow moving wave of low pressure.

Look for some blue-sky-moments today with light NW winds and highs near 80. As the day wears on, look for scattered showers and storms to erupt again. We’ll have to keep an eye on the radar to see where exactly they set up, but the majority looks to be east and north of NYC. That doesn’t mean we can’t see any, so we’ll watch carefully. For those who do see storms, there will be the risk of locally severe weather. Hail, damaging winds, and torrential rain, will be the biggest threat.

WEATHER RADAR

Look for more of the same tomorrow, albeit a smaller risk. Highs will be near 80 again, then we begin to dry out. Full sunshine returns on Friday with highs a comfortably warm low 80’s.

The weekend continues to look seasonable as well, with sunshine and 80-85º temps on Saturday; then sun and clouds on Sunday, more humid, the risk of a scattered shower or storm, and highs in the low to mid 80’s.
