NYC Scorcher Today Seasonal Temps Return Sunday

Good morning everyone. We’re off to a very warm start this morning, and I think we’re going to wind up a little hotter than most outlets are predicting today. I also believe we go a little hotter tomorrow as well with any possible storms hanging back for a while. On the thunderstorm subject, I also believe we see a better chance for storms in NYC and LI later this evening, than we do tomorrow. I’ll explain below.

Today is going to be a hot and uncomfortable one without a doubt. Most outlets are calling for low 90’s, but we’re already into the low to mid 80’s in many spots. Without clouds, thunderstorms, or a direct southerly flow to hinder the temps, this typically translates into mid to upper 90’s in our area; and I believe we will see some upper 90’s dot the area in spots such as downtown Brooklyn and northern Queens.

The sun, heat, humidity, and a spoke of energy coming down from the north, will touch off some scattered thunderstorms later in the evening. The best chance to see those will be in northern spots of the City, the north shores of Queens and Brooklyn, and the north shores of Long Island. Anything that does pop could easily reach severe limits, with frequent lightning, torrential rain, gusty winds, and hail.

WEATHER RADAR

We reset everything tomorrow for another hot one, and again, I believe we go slightly hotter than what most of the outlets are calling for. Extra sunshine will boost us into the low 90’s tomorrow with more oppressive humidity. Thunderstorms will begin to develop to our west in central PA, then head towards the area during the late afternoon/evening. I believe when they approach the area, we may see the line break up and/or weaken, fizzling out before they hit us. We’ll keep an eye on the radar, but this is why I believe today is the better chance to see storms locally; whereas tomorrow will be the best shot for widespread severe weather for the interior.

Clouds and instability stick around for Sunday with a chance of some scattered showers and storms. We’ll cool off a bit, but remain humid. Highs in the mid 80’s.

Mid 80’s, some clouds, and the chance of showers and storms sticks around for Monday, then we go very warm again on Tuesday with upper 80’s to possibly near 90 again. We’ll stay very warm, but late week and next weekend are questionable temperature and weather-wise.
