NYC SNOW CHANCE REMAINS ALIVE – Good morning everyone. For those who love snow and were saddened by the prospect of our cheap thrill dimming, the chance is still on the table as the flip flop of models continue.
Colder air has arrived, but we’ll have a fairly pleasant day today; sunny and low to mid 40’s are on the table. Clouds increase tomorrow, so we’ll have sun and clouds, low 40’s. The time frame has changed somewhat on how this system might unfold, which may affect type of precipitation (if any) as well.
First, models are starting to agree about a slight northwest shift in the precip field of low pressure riding along our stalled front, with upper level energy coming down from Canada helping to bring that shield closer. Because our window for any frozen precip has changed from Friday night into Saturday, to Saturday into Saturday night, there will be issues of snow sticking to the ground, or maybe even mixing with rain.

While this still bears close watching and fine tuning may be needed, this is your potential snow map in terms of what we would see at this very moment if things unfolded the way it’s being depicted this morning. I wouldn’t say run out and clamor for milk and eggs, but have a small glass of wine ready just in case the snowflakes start falling. Remember, things could still change either way on the spectrum; from absolutely nothing, to a better cheap thrill.
On a fun side-note, I was asked a couple of months ago when it was still warm and sticky, when our first snow would be; I gave the date of December 11. If this happens, I will have been off by 1 day. Let’s see what happens and we’ll continue to tweak everything as we get closer.
