NYC Snow Changing To Rain Possible Saturday
Good morning everyone. For the first time in a few weeks, we’re watching a system that could potentially bring some snow into the NYC Metro Area if the timing and path work out. Of course, there are a lot of caveats, because why would anything be easy in terms of forecasting a system during the winter? Meanwhile, we have a fairly calm week as our atmosphere sets up for late week/early in the weekend.
SATELLITE
We start off with clouds in the area today as everything lags pulling away from the past few days. However, it’ll remain dry and comfortable, with highs in the mid to upper 40’s and a light maritime flow.
REGIONAL RADAR
Clouds remain in the area tomorrow with a small piece of energy swinging through. We could see a few showers in the area, but nothing insane and we remain comfortable again. Highs remain in the mid to upper 40’s.
We clear out temporarily on Wednesday with sunshine and mild temps in the near 50 range, then things begin to change on Thursday.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
A system bringing a reinforcing shot of colder air will swing through at some point on Thursday, bringing the slight chance of showers, then breezy conditions. Highs Thursday will be in the mid to upper 40’s, then drop through the 30’s and into the 20’s overnight.
Cold air digs in for Friday with only mid 30’s as highs, then we’ll have increasing clouds as a system emerges from Texas and into the Ohio River Valley.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

As of now, it looks if we we’ll have ourselves a little overrunning situation with moisture heading in and cold air locked in place. A warm front approaching Friday night into early Saturday will give us the potential for some snow. If the timing of precipitation works out and we get start getting snow before sunrise Saturday, it will stick on all surfaces as lows Friday will be in the mid to upper 20’s.
The system itself is not a snow-friendly path in terms of keeping this thing all snow. Low pressure will go to our west and north, but we could see a 1-3/2-5″ snowfall-type situation before it all turns over to a cold rain some time Saturday morning. We have a lot to watch and timing/path will be key. If moisture arrives late, expect less accumulating snow or none at all. If our system goes further north and west of us, the warm front moves through at a different angle and faster, also cutting down the potential for frozen precip.
We will watch it all as we still have 5 days and 2 (small) systems to go.
