NYC SNOW HARD SELL WITH STUBBORN PATTERN
Good morning everyone. Doom and gloom takes over the forecast for the next 2 days before seasonably cold/cool air returns to the region. It’ll be short-lived though as our next system will take a similar path to this one, putting us back into the milder air for a few days. This pattern is holding on tight like an angry dog, but will it break? If so, when? Let’s see if we can find any answers.
SATELLITE
Our rain moving through as we speak is our warm front. We’ll remain cloudy throughout the day after this batch, then we’ll get another round of rain with our cold front approaching. Expect highs a gusty 50-55 today.
We’ll keep the temps steady overnight, then more rain moving in before sunrise. It’ll also become more windy as that front arrives. Rain will pass through tomorrow morning, but clouds will linger as well as the wind. We’ll also have the chance of some scattered showers as low pressure intensifies and moves to our east. highs will happen early and in the mid 50’s, then we will sink to the upper 20’s to low 30’s overnight.
WEATHER RADAR
Your weekend is looking seasonably cold/chilly, with sunshine and a stiff breeze on Saturday and highs in the 35-40 range. Then we’ll so light winds on Sunday with upper 30’s to near 40. For those celebrating MLK and those who are off, sunshine continues with low to mid 40’s.
In the short to medium range, snow, even light snow, is unlikely for the NYC Metro area. There are signs that the pattern might break down late this month or early February, but those signs are not clear yet. It could also signal a hiccup in our current pattern, where we see an opportunity or two for a close call or something bigger, then it snaps back into place in terms of what we see now. All in all, patterns don’t last forever, but if it takes too long to shake this, we will be heading into the last 1/3 of winter with a major snow deficit.
