NYC SNOW POSSIBILITY FORECAST CREEP
Good morning everyone. The wind machine here in NYC continues onward for a couple of days. Meanwhile, things are moving faster system-wise for the weekend; and snow may creep into the forecast mid-week in or near the NYC area if the 2nd part of the one-two punch is timed right.
EASTERN SATELLITE
First off, our wind and relatively cold temps continue, as does the dry air. Expect clouds and sun, windy, and highs in the low to mid 40’s today. A flurry or light shower could sneak in early today as well. Then, we increase the the sunshine tomorrow, but the wind stays, highs in the low to mid 40’s. For Friday, we’ll have the slight chance of rain mid to late afternoon as a weak piece of energy swings through, but at least the wind will stop; highs still below normal and in the low to mid 40’s.
REGIONAL RADAR
Over the weekend, rain wants to move in earlier than previously expected; with light rain possibly starting by late morning/early afternoon Saturday. The bulk of the heaviest rain continues to look as if it’ll occur overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning, then rain sticks around for part of Sunday as that low is stubborn to completely move out. Look for mid to upper 40’s Saturday, then a very brief, system-related warmup Sunday with highs in the mid 50’s. Overall, a nice weekend it is not.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For next week, colder air slowly moves in behind Sunday’s departing system. We’ll start off in the upper 40’s to near 50 Monday, then decline into the mid 40’s Tuesday; and that’s where the question marks begin.
Another system behind our weekend’s system will be heading into the area. It’s too early to tell at this point, but it could be timed “right” with the colder air moving in, giving the area a possibility of some snow. At minimum, inland areas will have a good shot at the white stuff, but system track will be key.
This time around, low pressure moving south of us could bring in enough cold air to give us some wintry weather. It is a scenario that I’ve been talking about for a couple of weeks now; where one system passes by, and then next one hot on it’s heals is timed perfectly with cold air moving in.
Technically, our pattern is still not snow-friendly, but if it’s going to happen right, this is the way it’ll go down. We’ll watch very closely to see if this scenario holds up and what it means for us if anything. Timing and path will be crucial on this one.
