NYC Soaking Rain Possible Late Sunday
11/5/24 11:07am EST
Good morning everyone. Mild air has made its way into the Northeast for 3 unseasonably mild/warm days ahead of us. For today, mid 70’s rule along the coastal plain, while 60’s dominate in typically cooler sections of the Northeast. We go for near 80 temps tomorrow up and down the coast, then settle back to near 70 by Thursday.
There is good news out of all of this for the Northeast in terms of our severe weather to the south and growing concerns with tropical energy. All of it is expected to converge, head up the Appalachians, and into the Northeast by Sunday; bringing with it, much needed soaking rain to parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The bad news is that it has to get past impacted areas of Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
First though, we have to deal with the ongoing severe thunderstorm risk across parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, and eventually Mississippi. We’re already seeing some morning heavy action throughout Louisiana, with locally damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of a few tornadoes. Look for more locally severe weather this afternoon as that line trudges slowly to the east.
That front will help draw up tropical energy into the Gulf Coast, but before anything nears, that energy will help enhance our front. This means a round of heavy showers and thunderstorms likely on Thursday across parts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. These are areas that don’t need the rain right now, plus we could see a severe weather component out of this.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
We’ll have mostly sunny skies today with mid 70’s and dry conditions. Tomorrow will be a little bit more on the humid side, with upper 70’s to near 80.
WEATHER RADAR
Our front passes by with little fanfare on Thursday, with a mix of sun & clouds and highs near 70. Friday we cool off a little bit more, but on the comfortable side with mid to upper 60’s.
Look for sunshine on Saturday, then increasing clouds late; highs near 60. Clouds lower and thicken on Sunday with the chance of a few showers by afternoon. Look for steadier rain to head in by late in the evening and/or overnight hours.
