NYC SOGGY WINDY TOUGH EVENING RUSH HOUR COMMUTE

NYC SOGGY WINDY TOUGH EVENING RUSH HOUR COMMUTE

Good morning folks. Our second system in two-days time is about to dump another round of heavy rain and wind for the New York City area. It will also help bring a dry, but below normal and windy week ahead.

EASTERN SATELLITE

storm free

Clouds are essentially in already and they will lower and thicken as the day progresses. That signature easterly fetch will pick up as well, becoming stiff and raw by early afternoon. Light rain should begin between 12 and 2pm, then increase in intensity just in time for the evening commute home.

REGIONAL RADAR

As of this moment, I don’t see anything as intense as Saturday night; but with the ground saturated already, we could see some localized flooding and even some downed trees as gusts may reach the 40mph realm during peak intensity. Add soft/wet soil into the mix, and don’t be surprised if you see crews working on some trees tomorrow morning. Highs today a raw upper 40’s to low 50’s, but it’ll drop quickly into the upper 30’s/low 40’s overnight. As far as rain is concerned, we should squeeze out 1-2″ with this latest wave.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Cooler than average air rushes in tomorrow with lows not recovering from overnight. Add windy conditions into the mix, and it’s going to feel cold. Expect highs in the upper 30s to low 40’s and west winds 15-20mph sustained, gusts to near 40 again. Winds calm down slightly tomorrow night with lows in the upper 20’s to low 30’s, but we could see some 30+mph gusts. So bundle up if you’re out there tomorrow night with those wind chills.

The wind machine continues on Wednesday and into Wednesday night, possibly even Thursday. Expect upper 30’s to low 40’s again for Wednesday, then we “modify” into the 40-45 range for Thursday. Friday looks to be about the same, as dry weather continues IF a very weak system doesn’t touch off a shower, but we could see a calm day wind-wise, making things appear warmer.

Our weekend so far is looking like a split decision, with a dry and comfortable Saturday, then a rainy Sunday possible.

With early snow making a showing this year, people are getting anxious and looking for more early snow. Although colder than normal air is continuing to make an appearance, our system track right now is not snow-friendly for the NYC metro area.

Unless there are any hidden pieces of energy behind a departing system bringing in cold air, this looks to continue at least into mid-December. However, the signs are there that we could see another shot of arctic air around that time +/- 3 days. If the pattern changes a bit as far as our system paths, then things may get interesting.

As of now though, all systems are go for a rainy, active, and relatively cool/cold period, with dry and windy pockets in between.
