NYC SPRINGTIME PATTERN SLOWLY BUILDING
NYC SPRINGTIME PATTERN SLOWLY BUILDING – Good morning everyone! The wind machine has finally lightened up a bit and even though it’ll remain unseasonably cold today, it won’t feel as cold as yesterday; highs near 40. Starting tomorrow, we start our slow creep towards more of a spring-like type pattern. A warm front will enter the picture, bringing with it clouds and a chance of a few showers; highs near 50.
On Saturday, we still have to contend with the question on whether the warm front can fully clear the area. As of now I’m still calling for mostly cloudy skies, some scattered light showers, and highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. If the front can push further north and some sun breaks out, we could see temps 65-75, but it’s a long shot at this moment. Sunday we’ll have clouds and rain as the rest of the system pushes through and temps drop back into the mid 40’s. It won’t be a complete washout, but it’s not going to be a nice day as it’ll feel damp and cold.
The parade of systems and volatility continue into next week, but the signs are building that we will be distancing ourselves from Old Man Winter’s late season knockout. Yes, next week will be cloudy and gloomy, with scattered light rain and more clouds than sun all week, but we’ll still be able to pull off temps near or just above 50; that’s sign number one.
Sign number two comes in the form of short-lasting cool spells with the passing of these systems into early April. It shows that the sun is getting stronger, the cold air is modifying faster, and fronts are starting to lift further north.
The last sign is heat building faster/more and more northward into the Midwest. While New England and immediate coastal areas will have to wait a little longer to see any warm-ups due to the maritime influence, that warm air building in the Midwest, coming back quickly after being knocked down by cold fronts, eventually has to push east. It is a process we see play over and over again every transition from winter, to spring, to summer.
In short, we must contend with some gloom as systems race across the Country, but everything has purpose and things are starting to come together for the ingredients we need for an outbreak of Spring down the road. Stay tuned as we watch the process unfold.
NYC SPRINGTIME PATTERN SLOWLY BUILDING – Radar is quiet and will remain so all day and into tomorrow morning.
