NYC Sunday Summer Feel

NYC Sunday Summer Feel

Good morning everyone. We have a sunny start and seasonal day here in the New York City area, then clouds increase representing the leading edge of much warmer air coming in. We’ll continue to walk in between the raindrops for most of Memorial Day Weekend, but a few big Florida drops could pop up with the heat and humidity tomorrow late afternoon.

After a sunny start today, clouds will increase as warmer air begins to push in. We’ll have highs in the low to mid 70’s in most spots, but with a southerly breeze developing, things could be slightly cooler at the immediate shore.

As clouds lower and thicken tonight, we could see some spotty light rain, but the best chance will be overnight as a couple of clusters of showers and storms lurk around. We’ll have to see where they form and go, but someone in the Tri-State area could see a hefty round of nocturnal showers and storms. So far, the best chance to see any action looks to be to our northeast; but eastern Long Island could get in on the action as well. All in all, these types of setups can be unpredictable, so we need to watch.

We’ll begin to clear out early morning tomorrow, then the heat is on. We’ll also have a relatively humid day in store for us. I wouldn’t call it oppressive, but it’ll be noticeably different from today humidity-wise as dew points creep up. With the sun baking the atmosphere, highs in the 85-90 realm, and higher dew points, it could be just enough to spark some popcorn-style showers and storms.

Where they pop up and where they drift can’t be predicted at this time, but we’ll be keeping an eye to the sky and radar to see if anything develops. Any showers or storms could be locally heavy or even approach severe limits, with the biggest threat being torrential rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail.

Clouds and spotty showers could remain in the forecast overnight on Sunday as drier air drifts in slowly. Any clouds morning morning will clear on out to give us a sunny and dry day with lower humidity. A north wind will set up that sinking air, which will warm up nicely and we should see highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s; finishing off the holiday weekend in grand fashion.
