NYC SYSTEM PATH GAME BEGINS
Good morning everyone. Yesterday’s weak system for the NYC area panned out exactly the conservative way I was leaning, but now comes system numbers 2, 3, and 4; with the biggest priority being the 4th some time on Sunday into very early Monday.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Today we’ll play the familiar thaw game again as temps rise into the upper 30’s and any dusting/thin layer of ice melts aside from what is in the shadows. Stiff northerlies will help keep things feeling chilly. Overnight tonight, we cloud up again and we’ll have the slight chance of some light snow by sunrise tomorrow as a weak wave moves through.
That energy tomorrow slips by rather quickly and is gone by late morning/early afternoon. Expect the chance of some light snow, maybe mixing with or changing to rain as things come to an end and we go for upper 30’s to near 40. I don’t see anything of consequence tomorrow and maybe we squeeze out a dusting to an inch at BEST, if anything at all.
REGIONAL RADAR
Our 3rd wave of energy comes in late Friday night/early Saturday morning, with another slight chance of snow, changing to rain as the day wears on during Saturday. Again, I don’t see anything of big consequence other than just overall sloppiness, wet, and raw conditions.
Then we turn our eye towards Sunday during this very complicated period. Sunday’s system look more juicy than what-will-be our 3 previous ones. However, final path is still in question and hangs on what our 2 waves do in the meantime. Regardless of what happens, this is NOT a powerful system. Moisture-laden? Yes. Powerful? No. Do not expect an all-out, ass-whoopin’ Blizzard.
As of now, I’m not going to make the call in terms of precipitation type and timing, but be prepared for a possible flaky start, turning to mix/rain, then back to snow before things end. If things were to work out perfectly path-wise, it could be all snow, but if they skew even warmer than what I see now, it could be all rain with snow well N&W of NYC.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Either way, things clear out as Monday goes on and unseasonably cold air rushes in. Expect below average temps Monday as we shoot for the mid to upper 30’s, then drop into the low to mid 30’s for the remainder of the week and teens possible overnight in spots.
With that cold air, we are looking quiet for several days, so this here is the only opportunity for slight redemption snow-wise on the immediate horizon. If it doesn’t pan out, the clock really starts ticking fast as things look to modify mid-month to the last 1/3 of the month.
