NYC Temps Recover Today With Deep Summer Conditions Tomorrow

Good morning everyone. We actually have a decent rest of the week until we screech to a halt some time on Friday: then our Memorial Day Weekend is looking OK, especially Memorial Day itself. Let’s get to it….

We have some clouds drifting in and out today, but you’ll see a few blue patches here and there; especially this morning. The big story today will be the comfortable temps with highs in the mid 70’s. However, those clouds represent very warm to hot air pushing back in. Lows tonight will only get down to the mid to upper 60’s, the sign for things to come for tomorrow.

We’ll have sunshine tomorrow and increasing humidity. Expect highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s, then a cold front will touch off scattered severe storms late evening. We’ll keep an eye on the radar to watch individual lines of storms moving across the NE corridor, but I don’t see a long organized line that’ll hit everyone.

Much dryer air heads in Thursday, but the cool air lags well behind the front. A “friendly” wind profile will help boost temps back into the mid 80’s under full sunshine.

The big question remains Friday in terms of rain. We’re watching the timing of a disturbance coming down from the upper plains and Great Lakes, then moving across the Northeast. Right now, I think we hold off till late afternoon/early evening on the rain, but we’ll cloud up and be cool regardless. Look for highs in the 65-70 realm. Steady rain will grace us at night and into the overnight hours, then slowly depart for an improving weekend.

We’ll have a hard time getting off the ground on Saturday, but we’ll get into partial clearing after an AM shower possible. This will be the 1 “tough” day with highs in the 60’s. Sunday is an improvement, with sunny skies and highs near 70. Memorial Day on Monday looks to be the best day, with highs in the mid to upper 70’s under full sunshine and dry conditions.

As I said for the “first call” forecast last week for the holiday weekend, it’s not good beach weather, but not bad for gatherings & BBQ’s. Saturday will be the only iffy one with light jackets required.
