NYC Toasty Day With Afternoon Evening Severe Weather Possible
Good morning everyone. Our deep summer weather continues and relief is on the way for tomorrow in terms of having more seasonal weather in the area for our 4th of July. It’ll come at a price through as a backdoor cold front will touch off some severe weather in or around the area.
SATELLITE
Expect a hot & humid day today with temps in the low 90’s in most areas. Backdoor cold fronts are tricky when it comes to our region, so we can’t guarantee storms across the NYC/Long Island area, but we’ll watch the radar closely. Anyone who does see some action, could see damaging winds, hail, an isolated tornado, and/or torrential rain. As of now, the best chance for storms are interior parts of the Tri-State, but we could get in on it depending on where they form and go.
REGIONAL RADAR
Your 4th of July will be a more seasonal day compared to today, with morning clouds, PM sun, and highs in the mid 80’s. We’ll be dry for the entire day, so keep those BBQ plans on.
The heat returns on Sunday, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 80’s to near 90.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Next week looks like a long stretch of low 90’s, then we’ll see if we go hotter the following weekend into the week of the 15th. If I were a betting man, I’d say we’ll probably wind up with our longest, hottest stretch of weather for the season over the course of the next 12-15 days, starting on Sunday. Again, we have to wait and see if this constitutes a heatwave by textbook definition, but if it doesn’t, it’ll be very close.
