NYC Tropical Update Plus Long Range

NYC Tropical Update Plus Long Range

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to a taste of early fall; that is, after a fairly hot day today. We have an important front moving though over the next 24 hours that’ll not only cool us off, but help protect us against the tropical activity that is ramping up.

Right now we are watching 2 tropical storms, 1 former tropical storm, and 2 areas of disturbed weather. The first area is in the Gulf of Mexico, which is likely to become a depression and possibly a tropical storm. This one will be steaming off to south coast of Texas and the Texas/Mexico border. Regardless of what it does as far as development, it’ll bring heavy rain to the affected area and most likely some flooding due to the very dry ground. Our next disturbance is off the coast of Africa and bears watching, but we have a long way to go on this.

That brings us to former tropical storm Emily, which is basically dead and only a threat to maritime as far as locally rough seas. It is Gert and Franklin that we will be watching closely. As of now, I think Franklin kind of absorbs Gert as Franklin takes a turn north. Once it emerges from Hispaniola, expect Franklin to strengthen as it continues its NW/NNW track. It could dip a little bit towards the East Coast, but it looks is if high pressure to our NW behind Hillary’s remnants riding around the ridge, will help protect us.

As soon as the “all-clear” is found, we will continue to watch the tropics as September and October are typically the diciest of months for the Eastern Seaboard and Gulf.

Locally, we have a mix of sun and clouds today with a hot day. Expect temps in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. Overnight, a cold front will pass by with a whimper and just a few extra clouds.

That’ll help give us a wonderful day tomorrow in the upper 70’s to low 80’s with sunshine.

WEATHER RADAR

We’ll keep that momentum going Wednesday and Thursday with sunshine and more highs in the upper 70’s to near 80. Clouds will increase late on Thursday, and that’s ahead of what-was Hillary riding the Northern tier of the ridge int he Midwest.

Expect a humid and showery day on Friday with highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. There’s nothing else to this aside from showers since this is simply light rain left over from Hillary.

The high pressure that’ll protect us from the tropics, has in store for us a wonderful late August weekend. Expect early fall conditions with sunshine and low humidity. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 70’s to near r80, then we could see some mid 70 readings for Sunday!
