Tropics Heat Up With NYC Spared Aside From Rough Surf

Good afternoon everyone. We have an absolutely beautiful day today as promised, and we continue to watch all of the features in play here; including the tropics. As we speak and as expected, Tropical Storm Harold is bringing copious amounts of rain to parts of Texas and the Texas/Mexico border. It is much-needed rain, but it’s also bringing flooding issues similar to California due to the very dry ground.

We’re also keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Franklin, which will eventually emerge from Hispaniola, regain it’s composure, and become a hurricane out in the Atlantic and off of the East Coast. With enough warm water and some friendly winds, it may develop into a major hurricane. Luckily, a cold front will give it just enough of a nudge to keep it well off of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coast. However, we are still not giving the all-clear to areas such as extreme eastern Maine, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland; with the threat increasing as you go north and east into those parts of Canada.

For the New York City area, we should see some increasing surf come and increased rip-tides late weekend and into mid-week next week; but that should be as far as we go on this one.

Check out below for the local forecast….

For the rest of today, enjoy those cobalt blue skies and highs in the upper 70’s to near 80. We’ll be on the “cool” side tonight as lows dip into the low 60’s in the City, which will equate to some 50’s out on Long Island and N&W of the NYC area.

Tomorrow is another repeat, with sunny skies, comfortable conditions, and highs in the upper 70’s to near 80.

WEATHER RADAR

We adjust Thursday’s forecast as things look to be moving along a little faster than expected clouds and rain-wise. Highs pressure will scoot off of the coast and try to hang on, but that’ll help increase the maritime influence as clouds and rain arrive. The squeeze play could hold us in the low 70’s for a raw-feeling day and on & off showers.

On & off showers will continue on Friday, and we will increase the humidity as the squeeze play relaxes a bit. This will allow temps to get to the 75-80 range depending on your location, but it’ll still be gloomy, just more humid.

Clouds and rain will try to stick around for early Saturday, then we should have some partial clearing late. The late departure of the system will delay the coolest air, but we should still close out Saturday on a high note with some blue breaks and highs near 80. Sunday is looking more dry and comfortably mild, with highs in the mid to upper 70’s.

Look for a repeat on Monday to start the next workweek.
