NYC Two More Days of Sunshine

09/15/24 11:25am ET

Good morning everyone. The Northeast has two more days of sunshine left until a wide cloud shield from low pressure, blots out the sunshine Tuesday through part of Friday. Pleasant 75-80 degree temps continue even into the scattered gusty showers Tuesday night through Thursday, then we get knocked down into the low 70’s by next weekend as things clear out.

Other than that, we have several areas of potential severe weather we’re watching. We’ll take you clockwise around the horn and start with the Upper Midwest. A new wave of energy will be exiting the Rockies and entering North Dakota & South Dakota for the chance of some late severe thunderstorms this evening and into the overnight hours.

It will be scattered in variety and more like small clusters, but we could see some hefty action. Tomorrow afternoon and into the overnight hours, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, could see a more organized line of widespread severe weather. Large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and a few strong tornadoes will be possible. We’ll also watch the same for a couple of small clusters lurking around Nebraska.

North Carolina and South Carolina are our next stop as tropical or sub-tropical energy comes ashore tonight into tomorrow. Gale or tropical storm force winds are possible for coastal areas of the Carolinas, as well as rough surf, coastal flooding, and beach erosion. We could also see a severe weather component to this as low pressure heads inland. Damaging winds, hail, and brief tornadoes will be possible, especially if low pressure takes on a more tropical characteristic.

Our last stop we’ll mention parts of Texas, Mississippi, and Arkansas in the same breath since it’s all remnant tropical energy riding around the Gulf of Mexico. Remnants from Francine will continue to bring scattered heavy showers and storms to parts of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas. While we don’t expect any widespread severe weather, we could see some locally heavier action. Meanwhile, our thunderstorm action in south Texas could bring some locally damaging winds, hail, and flooding rains.
