NYC WARMTH REMAINS QUESTIONABLE TODAY

Good morning everyone. That slow moving front is doing its thing this morning in the NYC area, bringing clouds, scattered showers, and patches of drizzle and fog. We can still squeeze out a last minute warm day for a few hours, but it all hangs on how fast we can get rid of some of these clouds.

EASTERN SATELLITE

While the bulk of the rain is out in Suffolk as we speak, the front hasn’t passed yet and we still have some leftover showers to transit the NYC area. We should be out of it all between 11am-12pm, then we await to see how the clouds break up. A few peaks of sun, and upper 60’s to low 70’s will be on the menu. If we can get some extra sunshine in the area between 1-3pm, you might see some mid 70’s, maybe even a few upper 70’s in spots, especially west into NJ.

Either way, it’ll be short-lived as clouds and fog return tonight with the approach of the southwestern section of this elongated system, and a wave of low pressure along it. Rain should hold off until late morning tomorrow as we get some scattered showers, then a steadier rain will develop as the front crosses the area again as a warm front. Highs tomorrow a cloudy and damp upper 50’s to low 60’s.

Overnight Sunday, low pressure takes the usual path of north and west of us. That means some cold front action and we could get a nice line of rain with embedded thundershowers moving through late Sunday night into Monday. No severe weather is expected, but we could get a gusty southerly fetch, especially along the immediate shore. Highs Monday in the low to mid 60’s.

We clear out fully on Tuesday and Wednesday with some bright sunshine and low 60’s, spot on average for this time of year. However, Tuesday will be a breezy one, making it feel a touch cooler than Wednesday.

For late week, another system approaches Thursday as clouds begin to enter the picture. We’ll have to see the exact setup, but we could have a chance of showers late Thursday with the warm front, then we await the familiar slow-moving cold front. Strong low pressure will again go well north and west of us, swinging a nice cold front through some time on Saturday. Timing of clouds and precipitation will determine our highs, so we’re going to hold off a bit to make the call on that.
