NYC COOL APRIL SHOWERS FOLLOWED BY MILD APRIL SHOWERS

Good morning. It’s just one of those 4-5 day April blocks in the New York City area, in which clouds and showers stick around. We’ll also have varying amounts of mildness, cool conditions, a breaks, before we fully clear things out early next week. Welcome to April folks.

EASTERN SATELLITE

We remain cloudy today as that intense system begins to weaken, stretch out, and march east. The center of low pressure is going way up into Canada, taking most of the energy with it, but we’ll still see some rain in the area.

A maritime fetch will help keep things feeling damp, drizzly, and raw even though we’ll be near-normal temp-wise; highs in the low 60’s.

Tonight, showery conditions head in around midnight, then we should see a period of steadier rain before sunrise tomorrow. Overnight, southerly winds could get a little gusty, especially at the immediate shore, but we’re not looking at anything over 25mph.

REGIONAL RADAR

To start your weekend tomorrow, that elongated front swings by early but slowly. This will help eliminate any gusty showers by early to mid morning, but clouds will be slow to clear. Unless we get a sunny miracle, upper 60’s to low 70’s will be as high as we go. I’ll keep the door open a crack just in case, so if some extra sunshine does occur, we could go into the mid to upper 70’s. That’s something we’ll have to take hour by hour though.

A wave of low pressure moving along the old front draped north of the Gulf will head our way for Sunday and Monday. This will keep the clouds in the area and we’ll have another round of rain in the afternoon Sunday and into Monday late morning/early afternoon. While this one could give us more rain than tonight’s system, I still see nothing major or overtly intense as many of the systems heading towards will play out a similar path. They may be vigorous emerging from the midwest and into the Ohio/Tennessee Valley, but lose some punch as low pressure goes north and west of us.

Our long range is looking steady, with the system parade continuing, interrupted by seasonably cool, sunny, and breezy days in between. With each system, we’ll have the shot at some slightly above average temps, but I see nothing extremely warm OR extremely cold unfolding for this time of year. April is just being April, and again, it seems as if we’re building a good foundation for a nice May if things work out.
