POSSIBLE STORYBOOK NYC MAY IN THE WORKS
Good morning everyone. High to mid-layer clouds have snuck into the area this morning well ahead of our next system. This will put a damper on the sunshine today, but we should still squeeze out a decent day today. A very mild to warm Saturday remains possible and clouds remain a factor in which I’ll explain below. Meanwhile, I’m looking at the pattern we have and I see signs of nice spring unlocking in May for the NYC area, barring any cut-off lows or other annoyances.
EASTERN SATELLITE
For today, expect more clouds than sun, but lighter winds will make things feel warmer than yesterday. Highs today in the mid 50’s.
Tomorrow, that system gets closer, but it won’t be anywhere near the strength it is now. Most of the energy goes well north and west of us, into Canada, then stretches out and weakens considerably. It’ll be another cloudy one, but I think the rain holds off till late evening/night-time; highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
REGIONAL RADAR
Saturday remains questionable as far as how high we go, and it continues to hang on the timing of the weakening cold front, plus how much sun we can get out of this. We’ll have the slight chance of morning rain, highs for now in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. If we introduce some extra sunshine, mid to upper 70’s are not out of the realm of possibilities in some areas, especially away from the coast.
Sunday is looking like a rainy one by afternoon as that wave of low pressure forming along the old front is a good bet. We should get a decent amount of rain between Sunday and Monday and believe it or not, we need it, so we’ll take it. Highs Sunday a cloudy and rainy mid 60’s.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
To start next week and as stated above, we’re dealing with that system both Sunday and Monday, so look for a repeat on Monday with rain and mid 60’s, then we dry things out. A usual, we’ll turn the wind machine on once everything passes; and I think allergy sufferers really start to feel the wrath of spring soon with things starting to bloom, combined with the wind.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the long range this pattern wants to continue, with a slow steady rise in high temps. We’re already beginning to see our “chilly” days consisting of 50’s instead of 30’s, plus the midwest and southeast are warming up very nicely (minus this one system out west).
Overall, I think we’re building a very solid foundation for a nice May in the NYC area. There are caveats of course, things we can’t see; such as cut-off lows, back door fronts, and strong sea breezes; but if we can warm the water up nicely, this will soften the impact a little bit of the latter two.
There’s a lot to watch and nothing is guaranteed, but the signs are there if everything cooperates since we are building that solid foundation we didn’t see last year and years prior.
Stay tuned.
