NYC SATURDAY WARM SCENARIO POSSIBLE
Good morning everyone. The clouds and gloom have finally left the New York City area, replaced by full sunshine, seasonably cool air, and a developing breeze. That big spring storm out west responsible for blizzard conditions and thunderstorms, will eventually march our way in a much weaker state. Most of the energy will go well north and west of us, which means we get to play the game again and see if we can time things just right for a warm day.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Look for a sunny day today with highs in the upper 50’s to near 60. A stiff northwesterly flow will develop as the day goes on, making it feel a little chilly on the skin. Winds will begin to subside tonight as we drop into the 35-40 range, and some areas away from NYC proper could see some upper 20’s and 30’s.
Tomorrow, we’ll have a carbon-copy day but with lighter winds. 55-60 will be the range again, but it’ll feel warmer than today.
REGIONAL RADAR
On Friday, that system begins to march towards our region, but gets hung up as it gets stretched out and low pressure turns into Canada well before us. We have a shot at a mild day on Friday, but as always, I remain conservative until we see otherwise. Look for low 60’s (cooler at the shore), and increasing clouds. How much sunshine we get, will dictate how mild we go. A little bit of extra sun, and we can easily turn those low 60’s into upper 60’s to low 70’s.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For your weekend, that system may still be hanging around. This is where front timing and sunshine will be key. If we can keep that front from passing or giving us too many clouds, we could see another day well into the 70’s for Saturday. Again, we’ll be careful and call the ball for upper 60’s to low 70’s at this point. We could go in either direction as extra clouds or maritime push could shave some points off as well.
Sunday and Monday we’ll be watching to see if a wave of low pressure develops along the old front near Texas, then rides our way. If this happens, we could have a decent shot at some prolonged rain and gloom.
Stay tuned on that as we watch to see how everything plays out.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
In the long range, we continue this game of systems every 3-5 days; with 1-2 day opportunities for mild/warm air, then some gloom, followed by cool sunshine, and then rinse and repeat. This is an extremely typical April we are having, which could set us up for a very nice May if things continue to trend smoothly.
