NYC Weather Assists Isaias Cleanup Today

Good morning everyone. As expected yesterday, we had a wild couple of hours once Tropical Storm Isaias’ bands reached us. That’s all it took to create some major issues with power outages and downed trees, although coastal areas were very lucky and escaped any noteworthy flooding conditions. Numerous 60-70mph wind gusts were expected, and we fell into that range quite nicely in terms of the average observation. A select few spots saw gusts 75-80, and those unlucky enough to experience one of those brief tornadoes, saw 90+ mph winds briefly.

Today is a new day and we’ll have calm conditions under sunny skies. That’ll help greatly in terms of allowing cleanup and repair crews do their thing. The only drawback will be for those without power as highs climb into the near 90 realm.  Open those windows and let the air flow throughout the house, hopefully everything is fully restored between today and tomorrow.

REGIONAL RADAR

My graphic header calls for scattered storms tomorrow and Friday, but I’m confident we remain mostly dry tomorrow. We’ll have the slight chance for a storm tomorrow evening, and the best chance will be overnight tomorrow into Friday with some nocturnal/early AM action. Highs tomorrow in the low to mid 80’s.

We’ll keep the chance of some scattered showers and storms as a couple of waves of energy transit through the area from the southwest. Expect clouds and sun, a few heavy storms, and highs in the mid 80’s.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Your weekend looks great even though the heat and humidity begin to creep up again Sunday. Dry & mostly sunny weather will allow everyone to finish the cleanup if it’s not done already, and we’ll have mid 80’s for Saturday; then upper 80’s to near 90 Sunday.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

In the long range, the heat wants to stay and we’ve been discussing this for the past 2 weeks in terms of what August may look like. Expect upper 80’s to low 90’s to start off next week, and we could see some mid 90’s by the end of next week. A brief “cool down” is possible the weekend of the 15/16th, but the heat wants to snap back. All in all, we could have our 3rd and 4th heatwave or near-heatwave this month, which will cap off a hot summer season compared to the last several years.
