NYC WEATHER WARNINGS CONTINUE – Good morning everyone and welcome to the Nor’Easter of 2017. Like a fingerprint, each Nor’Easter is different in it’s own right. As we watch things unfold, the only change in the forecast is rain-related. The system itself is having a really tough time getting out of it’s own way due to stubborn high pressure to our north. For this reason, rain has not yet entered the area, but it is on it’s way. Light rain will be with us late this morning on and off throughout the day, then becoming steadier and heavy at times tonight. Because of this, I have downgraded the rainfall amounts from 2-4″ to 1.5″ to 3″ expected.
This is the only change and every other expected condition is starting to reveal itself as we speak. High wind warnings, Coastal Flood Warnings (upgraded from a watch), and Hurricane Force Wind Warning’s continue. Wind will increase in intensity as the day goes on, gusting to 60+ mph at the immediate coast and near to at hurricane strength over the water. Seas will be an incredible 16-24ft and surf may reach 10-15ft.
So while it is not raining at this very moment, keep in mind that this is a dangerous system and it is bringing all of the conditions a Nor’Easter is notorious for. Low pressure is wrapping up and will eventually head our way, ahead of it are powerful winds and rough seas.
Rain continues to spool up and slowly head our way. Lower amounts are expected to fall due to the delay in it’s arrival, but heavy rain will still fall tonight.
