NYC Weekend Low Pressure Begins Development
Good morning everyone. Our system that is expected to bring a rough time to the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast, including New York City and Long Island, has begun to develop and will eventually send rain and wind our way.
For today and tomorrow, we have a quiet and fairly seasonable end to the summer, but then things go downhill pretty quickly. We’ll go over the forecast below as the wind component comes more into focus, but we still have some questions with rain amounts.
SATELLITE
Look for sunshine and low to mid 70’s today. We’ll remain relatively cloud-free, then clouds begin to increase tomorrow after some morning sunshine. We’ll also increase the winds, with steady easterlies developing and pushing the needle to 15-20 mph by sunset; especially along the immediate shore and east end of Long Island. Highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll have a chance of some rain overnight tomorrow, but the bulk of the rain comes in on Saturday. At this point we won’t worry about timing of the rain, just pretty much expect a washout for most of Saturday. As far as amounts, we still have to see where the heaviest rain sets up and where it goes, but at minimum, we should see 1-2 inches out of this. If that heavier batch of rain moves over the area, some spots could see 3-4″+ of rain. For the winds, it’ll be much like a Nor’easter as explain yesterday. However, we are getting a better idea of what those winds will be, and we could see 25-35mph winds along the immediate shore, with gusts to 40-50mph. Highs will only be in the low to mid 60’s.
Clouds stick around for Sunday and it’ll remain on the breezy side. We’ll have on and off showers and highs in the 65-70 range.
Our system will be slow to move out as it gets broken up and stretched out. This will equate to AM clouds on Monday with the slight chance of a few early AM showers. Sunshine should break out later in the day, with highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.
Our departing low should keep us on the seasonably cool/mild side of things even with the sunshine, with highs in the 65-70 range Tuesday – Thursday.
