NYC Windy Today Breezy Tomorrow Mild Midweek

Good morning everyone. Strong winds continue in the Northeast and New England with chilly to cool conditions; while scattered light to moderate snow showers continue to plague parts of the Adirondacks and upper New England. Winds are expected to howl into the evening hours, eventually subsiding to a breezy day tomorrow across the regions.

Things finally fully settle down on Wednesday as milder air moves towards the East Coast ahead of a building ridge and new system out west heading into the Plains. We’ll watch closely for any severe weather prospects, but this one isn’t looking definite as far as large contrasts in air masses. We do know towards the end of the month, the Great Lakes States and Northeast may have another round of chilly air with windy conditions, so perhaps a severe weather threat emerges ahead of that system for central and southern states.

This is an active pattern, with our system parade continuing for the West Coast. This will translate into more soaking rains for the valleys, and big snows for the higher elevations. Aside from the need to refill lakes and reservoirs that’ll take 10+ years to do, western states are emerging out of their severe/historic drought status in most spots.

A mix of clouds & sun and strong winds are on the menu today. Look for highs a chilly 45-50, with winds gusting to 50-55mph at times. Things remain breezy tonight, but we settle back into the 35mph realm and cold overnight.

We have a milder stay tomorrow, with stiff westerlies around 15mph and highs near 60.

WEATHER RADAR

Wednesday and Thursday are perfection for mid-March, with sunshine, light winds, and mid 60’s. We could go milder on Friday depending on the sunshine factor. We have a weakening system heading towards us that’ll bring clouds into the area with a slight chance of a PM shower. As of now, I’m going conservative with highs highs 65-70. However, if the clouds don’t materialize as much, we could see 70-75 away from south facing shores.

Look for decreasing clouds on Saturday with 55-60 degree temps, then increasing clouds again on Sunday. We’ll have the chance of some PM rain with highs a raw mid 40’s to low 50’s depending on our system.
