RAINY NYC DAY TODAY BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY ON TARGET

Good morning everyone. Clouds are here as a fairly vigorous, but compact wave of low pressure works it’s way towards the New York City area. We’ve seen a few scattered drops in the region already, but the bulk of the rain is still far to our southwest. An inland route of this system, then a close pass, keeps the heaviest precipitation to the west and northwest of us, but we’ll still get in on the free carwash.

As stated the last couple of days, this is not a big deal and is just a rainy day. Look for the steadiest precip to arrive between 11am-1pm, then be with us on and off for most of the day. We could hear a rumble of thunder or two as low pressure is off to our southwest and some convective action is possible.

While we have a coastal flood statement from NWS, coastal flooding concerns remain at a minimum. This mainly pertains to the 2nd high today cycle tonight, and will mostly cover the marshes in the middle of the bays and some lapping up against the bulkheads/docks. The enhanced high tide is actually not an indicator of a powerful low, but mainly in combination with a maritime fetch and the peak full moon.

Highs today will be a raw upper 40’s to near 50, and total rain between today and tonight should be around an inch or so; a little higher in spots that see some thundershower action, a little lower in places that don’t. Again, it’s  just a rainy day, hot lava and scorching pumice are not falling from the sky.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tomorrow, we slowly clear things out temporarily, but clouds will remain as that low wraps with in Canada. This could send a spoke of energy by, similar to what we see when a snowstorm exits. Instead of snow squalls though, we could see a brief round of cold rain. It’ll be a windy day tomorrow and 50 won’t feel like 50. Forecasted winds are holding steady, and we should see 15-20mph sustained winds, with stronger gusts; strongest overnight tomorrow.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Sun returns on Saturday and we remain looking windy and cool. Gust could near 35-40mph in spots, but not the apocalyptic 60+ mph some outlets were predicting. HIghs Saturday in the upper 40’s, then we modify nicely for Sunday. We’ll have full sunshine for the 2nd half of the weekend, lighter winds, and 55-60 is a good bet for most of the area. Areas that’ll get closest to 60 will be downtown Brooklyn and interior Queens.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

To start next week, we’re still looking mild to start with 55-60 once again Monday, then we cool off as a week system allows a reinforcing shot of cool air to drape down. Unfortunately for snow lovers, the snowpocalypse next week is still cancelled and you’ll have to wait till next winter.

The long range is also holding strong, with some more rainy action as systems continue to north and west track, and some front-related mildness could propel us to the 60-70 range in 7-10 days if timed right with the heating hours and/or the marine layer doesn’t win out.
