RIDGE FRINGE KEEPS NYC UNSETTLED WEATHER AROUND
RIDGE FRINGE KEEPS NYC UNSETTLED WEATHER AROUND – Good morning everyone. Like a sports team trying to explain why they lost, I’m going to do my best to explain why we are “losing” right now. It’s actually very simple, but each day is complicated forecast-wise as we move on.
Essentially what’s going on, is that high pressure responsible for what was supposed to be a warm and somewhat dry week, ended up building a little too far south and east. This puts us on the edge of the ridge, and like teeth on a gear, we are in those teeth on the outer edge of the sprocket. Energy moves around the edge of high pressure, and we will be the recipient of those waves of energy for a prolonged period of time.
For today, we will be in the soupy section, with scattered areas of fog and low clouds; highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s. Tomorrow, warm weather bubbles back with some sun and clouds and highs in the mid 80’s. However, as this high pressure wobbles back and forth, cool air will be back on the move for Wednesday. What this means for us tomorrow, is that yes it’ll be warm, but we’ll also have a shot at some showers and storms.
Wednesday looks cloudy with the slight chance of some rain, and back into the mid 60’s. Then we play the game again for Thursday, with possibly some dry weather heading in temporarily, clouds and sun, and some mid 70’s. The gloom returns for Friday as we keep wobbling back and forth, chance of showers and 60’s again.
For next weekend, we could find ourselves back in the warmth, but it’ll remain mostly cloudy and with the threat of some showers and storms at any given point of the day; highs in the mid to upper 70’s. Throughout this period, it’s going to be very difficult to pinpoint exact timing of the rain. There will be no rainouts throughout the next 7-10 period, but keep an umbrella handy, as well as a light jacket for the on and off cooler periods.
In the end, we are still way above normal for May temp-wise, and will remain so in the end regardless of individual, cooler days.
