UNSETTLED SATURDAY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE

UNSETTLED SATURDAY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE – Good morning everyone. Our unsettled Saturday is underway and things may get interesting late morning and early afternoon in terms of some strong to severe thunderstorms possible. We also have an unsettled pattern evolving overall, with waves of energy riding along the fringe of high pressure.

For today, a stationary front is bringing warm air to those south of it, but we are not invited to the party. Instead, we are the recipient of waves of low pressure riding along it, and those waves could provide enough lift and twist to the atmosphere in order to provide us with some severe weather. This is one of those instances in which severe weather can occur even though we find ourselves in the cool air.

We pretty much just finished up with out first batch of rain and embedded storms, but look for another to come swooping down in the next several hours. Expect showers and embedded thunderstorms, with a few of those storms possibly reaching severe limits. It will not be a widespread outbreak and will be more localized and brief. For this reason, I cannot tell you where, when, and who will see the action, but the threat is out there. The primary threat will be brief strong winds, cloud-to-ground lightning, and maybe some small hail.

After this wave passes, expect the chance of showers and drizzle to remain with us throughout the day, into tonight, and even tomorrow for Mother’s Day. It’ll be cloudy and gloomy tomorrow, with scattered showers and drizzle, a raw NE wind, and highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. Clouds stick around Monday, but we warm up a bit as things pull away. Expect highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.

Now that we are getting a better idea of how the week is going to unfold, Tuesday now looks to be the warmest day of the week. Look for clouds and sun, humid, and highs in the low 80’s. We could also see a slight chance of a shower or storm popping off as we’re on the sinking edge of this ridge. The threat of showers and storms continues through the rest of the week and a gradual cool-down occurs. Look for mid to upper 70’s Wednesday, mid 70’s Thursday, then upper 60’s to maybe low 70’s Friday.

Next weekend remains up in the air, but it’s looking possibly unsettled again.
