SEVERAL NYC SNOW OPPORTUNITIES UPCOMING
SEVERAL NYC SNOW OPPORTUNITIES UPCOMING
SEVERAL NYC SNOW OPPORTUNITIES UPCOMING – Cold air? Check. Very active pattern? Check. System path?…….System path?…..Well, that’s the last ingredient we’re waiting on. Cold air has moved back in and we’re in it for a couple of days as we await a precession of systems heading our way, but system path will be crucial as far as what we end up seeing.
We’ll start off with a seasonably cold day today, with highs in the low to mid 30’s. Clouds increase tonight with the approach of our first system, which will give us warmer temps and the chance of afternoon rain tomorrow; highs in the mid 40’s.
Much colder air will be moving in behind this system, but the precip will most likely not be gone yet. Look for any rain changing over to a period of snow late tomorrow night/very early Friday morning as this system departs. This period of snow should be brief, but with plummeting temps, we could see anywhere between a coating to 2″ before everything comes to an end just after sunrise Friday.
Temps will be falling through the 20’s on Friday, then look for low to mid teens Friday night. Highs will not or barely crack 30 on Saturday, with sunny skies and highs temps in the upper 20’s to low 30’s; then we await a more important, much larger system for Sunday/Monday.
Clouds will increase once again Saturday night as low pressure gathers strength in the southeast, then moves up the coast. System path will be key here, especially with those gulf lows that typically have a warmer solution. As of now, we’re looking at mixed precip for Sunday afternoon, then a changeover to all snow Sunday night, possibly lasting into Monday morning. This one has the potential to be a decent-sized snowfall, but we have to wait and see what the final path will be. Too close and we’ll have more rain than snow. Too far off of the coast and we could just get brushed with some light snow if anything at all.
We’ll know all in due time, but our pattern is at least giving us several opportunities: and more down the road past Sunday as cold air continues to hit us in fast-moving waves while systems continue to race across the Country.
