Some Snow Expected For Interior Parts Of The Northeast With Major Caveats
Good morning everyone. Last night and this morning, I was inundated with social media posts and inquiries about snow in the Northeast this weekend. We’ll address this right away before we get into the local forecast. First and foremost, the models don’t handle snow well this time of year as far as amounts. They don’t take into consideration the warmth of the ground, and sometimes even elevation. Simply put, you can’t use a 10:1 snowfall output model in mid April, with snow being created by an overrunning airmass.
You would need heavy, nighttime snowfall, and very cold temps in order to really make an impact in low to mid-level elevations this time of year up here. Yes, some areas will see some snow. Yes, a few areas could see some accumulation. However, those areas will be confined to higher elevations, and we won’t be getting 3-6″ inches of snow in low to mid elevations. Precipitation also won’t be heavy enough or last long enough to make any type of impact except for cool photos and a cheap thrill for most in the affected areas.
SATELLITE
For today, we go back to reality and stop the snow talk. Look for more sun than clouds for most of the day, and highs a cool near 50.
Clouds increase tomorrow after some morning sun, and we’ll have the slight chance of some showers by evening. Steadier rain heads in overnight as we sleep. Highs Friday near 50 again.
REGIONAL RADAR
Near 50 temps continue for Saturday, and we’ll have some early morning showers before some blue patches return late.
Our nicest day of the weekend remains Sunday, but we’ll have some increasing clouds late as a weak system approaches during this fast moving pattern. Highs a seasonal near 60.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Clouds stick around Monday and we could see some extra sunshine before sunset. Near 60 temps stick around.
Tuesday might be the best day of the week depending on what a late-week system does. Either way, we’ll have sunshine and low 60’s Tuesday, then increase the clouds on Wednesday with the slight chance of a shower.
If we can hold that front back on Thursday, we could see a mild one with increasing humidity and sun & clouds, but it’s too far ahead at this point. Next Friday could be a rainy one, but again, all depends on the timing of our next large system. If it’s gone by Friday morning, look for cool and windy instead of mild and rainy.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Fast moving systems conidnute to race across the lower 48, giving us no time to enjoy any prolonged mild air. Cool-to-Seasonal-to-Rainy & Mild-to-cool and windy; rinse and repeat.
MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
