SPRING NOREASTER HELPS BRING NYC SUMMER WEATHER
SPRING NOREASTER HELPS BRING NYC SUMMER WEATHER – Good rainy afternoon everyone! The radar is full, the rain is here, and everyone is getting a free car wash to rinse that pollen off. Rain will continue all day, with the heaviest rain along the coast and NW New Jersey where the topography helps create some natural lift. Winds will increase, with the highest sustained winds and gusts along the immediate shore. Minor coastal flooding will also be a small issue during the high tide cycles tonight and the first part of tomorrow. Temps will remain steady overnight in the upper 40’s.
For tomorrow the low pressure will slowly drift ENE and westerly winds will help try and usher in some drier and warmer air. However, with cold air aloft and the sun working on the atmosphere, it could help create some instability, resulting in some popcorn type showers and storms. Some of these storms, if they develop, could contain some small hail, especially in upstate NY and NW New Jersey.
The sun returns full-time for Monday as low pressure begins to pull away for good, but it’ll bring some gusty NW winds in the process, highs in the mid to upper 60’s. Winds begin to relax somewhat for Tuesday, allowing temps to rise into the mid 70’s in the NYC area. After that, a taste of summer is on, with warm air making a big push into our region. Both Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll have sunny skies and temps between 80-90 (Coast to inland), before “cooler” air drops back in for Friday. I say “cooler” because we’re still in the mid to upper 70’s and well above normal.
In the long range, next weekend is looking seasonably mild before much warmer air tries to make a return. It looks at this point that every time the maritime influence wins out, we’re still looking at normal or slightly above normal temps; but when or if the warm air wins out, we’re looking at low 80’s through upper 80’s. Stay tuned as we keep an eye on which days are which and we fine tune what airmass wins out every 2-3 days.
