STORMY FRIDAY BREAKS HEATWAVE
STORMY FRIDAY BREAKS HEATWAVE – Good morning everyone. Rain and thunder are about to get underway in New York City, but it’ll come in piece-meal as a cold front breaks our week-long heatwave.
Not a complete rainout, but unsettled
Stretched along and ahead of our cold front, is essentially three areas of energy. One will transit well to the north of us, one moving across the area with the heaviest action just to our south in NJ, and a nice little twist in the atmosphere heading ESE out of western/central PA.
As of now, we’ll have a round of moderate to heavy rain this morning, maybe a few rumbles of thunder. Then we’ll have a little break as we wait and watch to see if the radar fills in. If not, we’ll have to wait and see how far north that shield of precip goes as the next and main batch of energy also travels to our south similar to this morning. Highs will get into the mid 80’s and of course it’ll be muggy. If we do get into some of the more concentrated action, look for torrential rain, gusty winds, and localized flooding.
Overnight, we drop into the upper 50’s (outside of the boroughs) to low to mid 60’s on the heat island and a gusty north wind will accompany the cool temps. We’ll have a sunny, dry, and breezy day tomorrow, with highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. Winds calm down for Sunday, sunny and dry again, but warmer with highs in the low to mid 80’s.
Heat returns Monday and into mid-week, with upper 80’s to low 90’s on the menu.
