SEVERE STORM THREAT DIMINISHED BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND AHEAD – Good morning everyone. As promised, we stayed dry in NYC last night for perfect firework weather and unauthorized climbing of statues. The heatwave comes to an end tomorrow with a round of heavy rain, and we have a beautiful stretch ahead before the heat tries to return.

For today, we’ll have sun and clouds, muggy conditions once again, and we go for 90 one last time in this block of hot weather. Look for a repeat yesterday in terms of the slight chance of a thunderstorm popping up, mainly inland, but you never know. Tonight, clouds increase and we have a better chance of showers and storms, especially as we approach sunrise.

Because this energy is transiting the area earlier, our chance of severe weather is diminished. It’s still a strong cold front and the air masses still have a big contrast, so don’t rule out some isolated stronger cells, but overall I don’t think we see a widespread squall line or widespread damaging conditions. Expect showers and storms, especially before early evening, highs in the mid 80’s. As of now, the biggest threat will be heavy rain, flash flooding, and gusty winds, but we will keep an eye on anything stronger that may pop up.

Saturday continues to look sunny, breezy, and comfortable, highs in the upper 70’s to near 80. On Sunday, we continue the sun and low humidity, but we add a few degrees onto the highs as we get into the low 80’s.

Early next week, we slowly return back to the heat as discussed previously. It won’t be as extreme as last weekend, but upper 80’s are certainly possible to start off the week Monday; then near 90 to low 90’s onward. For the time being, it’ll be a dry heat, but look for humidity to increase as we move forward.
