System Parade Continues But Quiet Northeast Till Next Week
Good morning everyone. Low pressure continues to spool up and deepen off of the Southeast coast, giving the region down there stiff coastal winds, enhanced tides, and rough surf. In some instances, especially along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, wind gusts may exceed 45mph at times. Other than that, the system begins to pull away over the next 24-26 hours and things will begin to settle down.
One storm pulls away, another hits the West Coast, and begins to chug eastward across the Rockies and into the lower plains; and that is the theme of this winter so far. After another round of torrential rains and heavy snows for the West, we’ll start looking for more heavy rains along the Gulf as low pressure once again taps moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. As far as severe thunderstorms, we’ll have to wait and see on that; but at minimum, we’ll be looking at moderate to heavy rain this weekend in areas that have already received way too much.
While the Northeast is enjoying a very quiet period and will do so into the weekend, that Gulf moisture will slide up the Appalachians and present itself to the Northeast by early next week. While some weather models are showing some heavy snows possible for parts of the Northeast and New England, it’s simply too early to tell the outcome of something only hitting the West Coast right now.
Here is your local forecast –
SATELLITE
For today, look for sunshine and seasonably chilly temps. A stiff northeast breeze from our Southeast system interacting with high pressure up north, will help keep things feeling colder and raw with 10-20mph winds. Highs will be near 40.
We modify tomorrow with mid 40’s and gradually calming winds for a more comfortable day.
WEATHER RADAR
Thursday improves on Wednesday, with more sunshine and highs 45-50. Clouds begin to roll in for Friday ahead of milder air with highs near 50 or low 50’s.
The weekend looks quiet, with more clouds than sun on Saturday but mild. Highs will be in the 55-60 range, then low 50’s Sunday with the slight chance of a scattered shower. All eyes turn to early next week, but it’s too early to go into specifics. At minimum, expect a chilly rain possible on Monday and/or Tuesday.
