Quiet Period Gives Way to Possible Northeast Snowstorm
02/07/2024 – 9:45am ET
Good morning everyone. The eastern half of the Country continues to enjoy quiet weather, but things are going to change drastically this weekend into early next week as our next storm begins to cross the lower Rockies and reorganize.
Seasonably cool conditions will give way to a very mild weekend for the Northeast while remaining quiet. Meanwhile, low pressure will once again tap the Gulf moisture and give the Lower Plains and Gulf States, more unwanted rain in areas that have received too much in the past couple of months. To add to the problems, low pressure is looking a little more vigorous than what weather models were showing yesterday, so we will once again be on the lookout for embedded severe weather with our heavy rain.
As low pressure exits the Gulf States and moves up the Appalachians, we’re expecting another round of heavy rain and possible embedded severe weather in the Southeast as the cold front drags by. We’re also expecting an energy transfer to the coast, coinciding with colder air trying to dig into the Northeast and New England after a mild weekend. If things remain on the current trajectory, we could see rain changing to heavy snow for parts of the Northeast and New England. Some colder spots and higher elevations, may remain all snow, increasing the final snow totals our storm will drop.
For areas such as the New York City Metro Area and Boston Metro, as of now it looks like cold rain changing to snow or wintry mix. If a changeover to snow does occur, precip may be heavy enough to give the areas another round of accumulating snow. While it’s too early to pinpoint who will see the heaviest of snow, this system will have the moisture and the cold air to potentially drop 6-12″ or more of snow.
Stay tuned and we will watching things closely. Here is your local forecast –
