TROPICAL STORM CHRIS MOVING SOON NYC HOT WEATHER AHEAD

TROPICAL STORM CHRIS MOVING SOON NYC HOT WEATHER AHEAD – Good morning everyone. Another beautiful day in NYC is ahead, but it’ll be much warmer. Meanwhile Tropical Storm Chris throws a wrench in the plans for offshore boaters, but that’s about all he’ll do before he moves out soon.

Air quality alerts return today as light winds and very warm temps help create some stagnant air. Look for sunny skies, light westerlies, and highs in the upper 80’s. Near the beaches, there will be some relief as a seabreeze develops and we stay a bit cooler.

Tomorrow will be the hotter day of this quick shot, with much more humid conditions, highs in the low 90’s in most areas (cooler at the shore), and the chance of an afternoon or evening storm. Again, the best chance will be inland with the seabreeze helping the process along, but we can’t rule out one popping up in our neighborhood.

Things cool down on Wednesday with he help of a northerly flow; expect sunny skies and highs in the mid 80’s. With some energy aloft, there could be a few stray popcorn storms with the help of the sun, but most of the action will be inland and widely scattered.

Thursday is looking dry and warm, with highs in the mid to upper 80’s. We slowly start creeping up again and upper 80’s return for Friday, then upper 80’s and a touch more humid for Saturday. Look for upper 80’s to low 90’s for Sunday, and pretty much the same as we roll into the following week.

In the long range, hot weather wants to continue, but it’s not looking as intense or as long-lived as our prior heatwave. Yes, it’ll be hot. Yes, it may be considered a heatwave in the end; but we’ll be going about it a little differently and 100 degree temps are not on the menu as of now. We’ll keep an eye out and fine tune the forecasted heat as it tries to return for a stretch.

As far as meandering Tropical Storm Chris is concerned, expect him to become a minimal hurricane over the course of the next 12-24 hours, but the only threat he poses is to the shipping lanes. By Wednesday, he should be on the move quickly and exit the picture by late Thursday/Friday.

For your marine forecast, TS Chris will have 1 nuisance aspect to him for our area. Regardless of light and favorable winds for boating near-shore, swells created by Chris are making their way up. This will generate 3-5ft seas for a decent stretch, probably until late week/early weekend. Rip currents will also probably be an issue Wednesday onward and for a few days.
