HOT NYC DAY TODAY CHRIS BECOMES HURRICANE – Good late morning everyone. We have a hot one today in New York City, but it’s nothing we can’t bare compared to the big heatwave we had last week. Also in the news, Tropical Storm Chris should be a hurricane by next advisory, or the one thereafter, if it’s not a Hurricane already.

Sunny skies, a hot breeze, and poor air quality will dominate the scene today. Look for the very slight chance of an evening storm, but most of the action will be inland; highs in the low to mid 90’s. Tomorrow, we “cool’ off a bit but it’ll still be very warm out there. Look for humidity to drop, so it’ll be bearable, but look for highs in the upper 80’s nonetheless.

On Thursday, a northeast wind will help drop things into the mid 80’s. However, we remain rather dry with no real rain in sight as sunny skies still dominate. Look for mid 80’s again Friday, but then things start to creep up again for the weekend.

Upper 80’s to near 90 seems entirely possible for Saturday, then we go for near 90 temps Sunday for back to back good beach days. As we enter early next week, upper 80’s to low 90’s are possible before a brief break mid-week, then the heat tries to return once again for late week and into that following weekend of the 21st. Overall, when July ends and we look back, it will have been well above normal temp-wise. We’ll need some rain soon though or else drought conditions will become possible.

As for Tropical Storm Chris, he’s looking like a Hurricane to me although it’s not official. There is no threat for our area other than rough surf and rip currents. That should begin tomorrow and I advise any boaters with offshore intentions to rethink their plans. Also, the beach will not be a place for small children and inexperienced swimmers until things begin to calm down close to the weekend. Stick to the bays and swimming pools for a few days while Chris says goodbye.
