WARMTH CONTINUES NATE BRINGS NEEDED RAIN
WARMTH CONTINUES NATE BRINGS NEEDED RAIN – Good morning everyone. Warm weather continues as Nate starts to gather some strength in the southwest Caribbean.
A mix of sun and clouds, relatively high humidity for October, and above average temps will be with us today and through the weekend. Dew points are in the 60’s and with some extra sun expected today, we’ll reach near 80 in most areas. However, some low to mid 80’s are possible in the usual warmer spots of inland Brooklyn, Queens, and even interior Manhattan as we are seeing that happen as we speak. Low to mid 80’s are popping up in central Brooklyn, Queens, and parts of interior Long Island; upper 70’s to near 80 elsewhere.
Tomorrow looks like a carbon copy, then clouds increase for Sunday as a front approaches the area, possibly sparking off a few scattered showers/storms later in the afternoon. This same front will help steer what will be Hurricane Nate’s remnants our way, making for a cloudy, humid, breezy, and showery Monday and Tuesday. This will be much needed rain as everything is starting to really dry up in the area. Depending on the final track and setup of Nate’s approach into the area, parts of the region could see 1-3 inches of rain, but we’ll have to wait and see who will be the recipient of the heaviest precip.
As far as Nate is concerned, I’m a little skeptical at the expected strength at landfall and I’m concerned about some unexpected deepening as it enters the Gulf. Hopefully I am wrong, but I don’t think Nate should be taken likely, especially when it comes to storm surge and where storm surge warnings have already been issued. As of now, the NHS has Nate as a landfalling Category 1 hurricane, but I think we could see Category 2 or + depending on how it emerges past the Yucatan.
Stay tuned as we dial in on Nate, finish out this summer weather by the time of Nate’s departure, and welcome some true fall weather in on Thursday.
