WEEKEND RAIN THREAT FOR NYC
As Hurricane Matthew continues to batter the Carolinas with wind and rain, NYC is starting off the weekend under overcast skies. A cold front from the west is approaching, and will be here by late Saturday afternoon. This is a front that, as of yesterday contained very little moisture. However, the trough’s interaction with Matthew is allowing it draw from the hurricane’s immense rain field. For this reason, NYC could wind up getting close to a half inch of rain before all is said and done.
The latest models are in a good agreement that the shower activity will stick around for the first half of Sunday, a bit later than anticipated. Skies will be cloudy into the afternoon with perhaps some clearing by the evening. Columbus Day and Tuesday will be filled with plenty of sunshine. The upcoming week will feature seasonable temperatures, starting off in the mid 60s from Sunday through the middle of the week. Wednesday and Thursday will see a slight uptick in temperature (upper 60s), but also a bit more cloud cover as a weak trough approaches from the west. The trough will lack moisture, so precipitation looks unlikely at this point. The trough should pass by to the north late Thursday, and full sunshine will return Friday into the weekend.
